Welcome to Kaito Gakko Maui

ABOUT US...
Aloha and welcome to Kaito Gakko Maui! I am Sensei Micah Keaulani Manzano. I started training when I was 4 years old, at Kaito Gakko in Honolulu. My grandfather, Professor Bruce Keaulani, was my teacher. It has always been my dream to continue his legacy and keep the Kaito Gakko school alive. In 2019, he promoted me to San Dan (3rd Degree black belt) and gave me his blessing to start teaching! In 2020, I started classes out of my garage and had a couple of neighbors who’d bring their keiki over to our house. Last year, we were fortunate enough to open our brand new Dojo in Wailuku! Today, I currently offer keiki & teen classes, but hope to offer more classes soon! If anyone is interested in enrolling please click on the "Contact" tab to send us a message. It’s been a fun journey starting Kaito Gakko Maui and I can’t wait to see whats in store for us! This is only the beginning!

The History of Kaito Gakko

Kaito Gakko means school of schools, best of east and west. The name Dr. Kaito was given to Uncle David Nu'uhiwa by martial arts masters throughout the world. Uncle Dave crafted his fighting system from a long life of training and fighting. It combines elements of Karate, Danzan Ryu Jiujitsu (as developed by Master Henry S. Okazaki, whom Uncle Dave studied under), Hawaiian Lua, and various other fighting systems.
Ultimately, Kaito Gakko represents a complete self-defense system as effective on the street as it is on the mat. Uncle Dave passed away in 2005, but he is still with us on the mat; smiling upon us and making sure we stay in line.
